This is not a petition or a commitment to an organization. It is simply a way of saying that I recognize that I can do something, that my choice to be active on behalf of others matters.

• ParticipateIt is more important to be a participant than it is to be a spectator. There is pressure on my time from family, work, entertainment, and other commitments but I recognize that my community needs me to show up.
• ContributeI want to contribute rather than just take. I have compassion, talents and time to give that won’t do any good to anyone unless I use them.
• Act LocallyI want my actions to speak loudly in support of my neighbourhood through helping local groups, schools, neighbours, and other people who might need assistance.
• Make a DifferenceMy contribution really does matter despite so many messages around me that say otherwise.
• Pursue a Full LifeIt is more meaningful to give than to receive. My generosity toward others will lead to a more fulfilling life for me.
• Defy the OrdinaryDoing nothing is a vote against a better life. I can’t change the world but I choose to defy the ordinary and do something rather than nothing.
• Make a StartWhatever my income level, I can always give something. It matters to my community that I give rather than wait for someone else with more money to do something.
• Develop a HabitHowever busy I am, I can afford to give some of my time by being creative and finding ways to build my life around helping others.
• Take ResponsibilityGovernment cannot take care of all the needs in my community. I accept that some of my communities needs are my responsibility.
• Love a CharityI understand that most charities do not receive money from the government and that my income tax cannot provide everything this country needs. Charities count on my support to provide specialized care to people who need help.
